Is there a tiger in your tank?

Hi and welcome to the week that was. Firstly a big welcome home to one of our regulars MR.X from Kirkintilloch.

It was good to speak with you yesterday and it sounds like you had a great time trekking in Nepal.

I know that you did have internet access at some stages of your journey and I trust that you kept up with your favourite blog as well as the football results!

All the week’s financial happenings including news of the RBS rights issue and the Bank of England injection of funds can be found on our weekly news podcast.

Just click here and you will hear all about the events. http://www.ciobs.org.uk/about/what_podcasts.cfm

You will in fact have to paste this into your browser as the blog is not allowing links at the moment.Oh no I feel a rant coming on again about the lack of colour but I won't.

My thanks go to the participants in this week’s introductory day here at Drumsheugh. It was a pleasure to work with you all and I hope the problems at Edinburgh airport on Wednesday evening did not spoil the day.

Exam fever is all is all around us at the moment with the Chartered Banker Spring diet in full flow.

This is the last diet to have the examinations in the current format, we shall be moving to on-line versions towards the end of this year. Full details are available on this website and Chartered Banker students will have received the recent newsletter advising of the changes.

I am looking forward to Monday and Tuesday of next week when I shall be running a revision course for Apex 1 students and I am sure the students are also looking forward to it.

Roll on Monday morning!

It has been a brief blog this week as I am trying to conserve fuel and I am certainly not panic buying either.

Have a great weekend and best of luck to all of you sitting examinations next week

Michael (A full tank at the moment thank you)

It's nearly exam time again

Hello to you all once again and especially to the student member who contacted us here at CIOBS last Friday asking if there would be a blog published that day.He/she was obviously in need of a blog and so soon after Wednesday’s offering too.

Apologies for the wait.

I must mention that the weekly news podcast has returned after last week’s non-appearance and can be located here http://www.ciobs.org.uk/about/what_podcasts.cfm

Well what a week it has been.Your very own Raymond Brown has been running a two day revision session for RQF Apex 1 (2007 version) and I was very privileged to be invited to sit in on some of the topics and was well impressed. These courses are great value for money and it was also a great opportunity for me to pinch some of Raymond’s material for my own use in the future! Thanks Raymond.

If you are interested in attending any of our courses or if your company wishes us to run an in-house course then please contact us here at CIOBS.Our main switchboard number is 0131 473 7777.

This week saw the last of the revision courses for Chartered Banker and the closing date for submission of second assignments has also passed, which means that the final examinations are nearly upon us.The first of these is on Tuesday 22nd April with the final examination taking place on 1st May.

I will advise at a later stage regarding the publication of results.

Good Luck to everyone sitting an examination at this forthcoming diet.

Today sees a meeting of the Business Development and Education Teams – sounds like a football match, perhaps we will get a draw.

As thoughts turn to next week, I see that there is an Education department meeting on Monday. That will be the Education team without the Business Development team perhaps?

Wednesday brings one of the legendary CIOBS Introductory Days. This week’s course sees the arrival of some new students who are studying for a Diploma or Certificate in Financial Services – you will be coming to the right place folks and I look forward to meeting with you all.

Did you know that on this day in 1949 the Republic of Ireland Act came into force and Eire became a republic?.

A very good morning to all our friends over there in Dublin at the Institute of Bankers in Ireland.

Also on this day in 1992 the comedian Benny Hill passed away.He certainly was the fastest milkman in the west.(Older readers will understand that one)!

Have a great weekend everyone.

CIOBS - The Global Institute

Well, first things first as they say. I am sure you will all be delighted to know that Raymond rocked them in Rotherham and has returned home safely.

Welcome back Raymond. I am sure that the good folks of Rotherham enjoyed your visit.

Here at Drumsheugh this week we have hosted a few more of the Chartered Banker and related Diploma Revision sessions. The final course takes place on Tuesday 15th April.

Next Wednesday and Thursday sees a first. We are running a revision session for students of Apex 1 (2007 version) here at Drumsheugh. This is the updated syllabus and I am sure it will be a wonderful two days for the lucky participants.

Tomorrow will find me in South Queensferry. OK, I know it isn’t Rotherham and it is not far away from Edinburgh city centre, but it is next to the River Forth and that is good enough for me. Some sea air in the old lungs. Or should that be river air – who knows.

Our Chief Executive, Simon Thompson is off to Hong Kong this weekend.

Hong Kong,Rotherham and South Queensferry what a trio!

Do I hear the chimes of Midnight? “ What ?” I hear you cry.

Remember midnight tomorrow sees the deadline for submission of that second assignment and I know that I have mentioned this in the last three blogs, but, please do not call on Friday saying “oh I thought it was the 11th Michael” or “I forgot to put my clock forward two weeks ago.”

No excuses for late submission will be accepted.

You may have noticed that there is no CIOBS news podcast this week. There is a technical reason for this, but your favourite podcast will return next week.

I can also exclusively reveal that another of our staff is off traveling again next week - Peter Moir will be visiting Mauritius!! I look forward to hearing all about that one and I am sure that I will with all details included!

Land Ahoy!

Michael (not travelling too far at the moment)

Rotterdam or Rotherham

Friday again and the word blogging springs to mind.Or it could it be that the word spring springs to mind.It is a mild day here in Scotland’s capital and I am told that it was warm in Aberdeen yesterday and it was sunny.

Oh well that will be summer over for the good people of that part of Scotland for another year.

What an exciting week it has been here at CIOBS.Revision courses for Chartered Banker have continued throughout the week and we had a bit of excitement on Wednesday morning when there was no power in the building.

This led to the Business Law revision session having to relocate at very short notice to a neighbouring hotel!

A big thank you to the Melvin House Hotel for accommodating Mr Angus Mair and his delegates.

Next week brings yet another batch of Revision Sessions. Let’s hope they are powerful.

I forgot to mention in last week’s blog that we had a photographer visit us here at Drumsheugh last week. The purpose of this visit was to take some photographs – strangely enough.

A few group shots were taken and even some individual ones.So keep an eye on the web page for some up to date snaps of CIOBS personnel.

I am sure that the professional photographer will be delighted that I refer to her compositions as shots and snaps!!

Warning Warning Warning Warning Warning

To all Chartered Banker and related Diploma Students – Yes,assignment time is fast approaching. As mentioned last week second assignments must be in the hands of your subject tutor no later than midnight, Thursday 10th April. Yes,that is Thursday of next week.

End of warning.

The town of Rotherham in South Yorkshire will be putting out the flags and bunting this weekend as the news spreads of the impending visit by Raymond Brown.

Yes, folks the great man will be down your way on Tuesday. Please make him feel welcome.

I must mention that Rotherham is the hometown of the Chuckle Brothers who are famous for the children’s comedy programme 'Chuckle Vision' which has aired for over 20 years on the BBC.

I am sure that Raymond will keep the good folks of Rotherham entertained.Let's hope that his Sat Nav is working properly and he doesn't end up in Rotterdam.

Happy Birthday to Robert Downey Jr, the famous actor who is 43 today. He only get’s a mention because he shares my surname.

I have never met him.On the other hand he has never met me either.

Oh well.Time to get on

Have a great weekend
Michael (an infamous Downey who has never met the Chuckle Brothers )
