Well that's the Bank Holiday weekend over. I trust you all had a good one. The weather wasn't too good throughout the country but hey, I am sure we all found something exciting to do.
Today at CIOBS we had one of our Monthly Communications Meetings and tomorrow I am running yet another Introductory day, this time for potential Chartered Bankers. I am told that this course is now full with 12 eager attendees.
I will be my usual cheery and enthusiastic self of course. The delegates are from various organisations and this will be a great opportunity for networking.
Well the summer must be due soon. If I had a pound for every time someone has said to me recently " I can't believe it's nearly June " ........
Remember please feel free to forward your comments to us here at CIOBS at any time.
Toodle oo the noo (or Goodbye for now)

Weekend Waffle
Hi everyone welcome to today's blog. I trust that you are all well. The Introductory day on Wednesday was most enjoyable (Thanks to Raymond for his kinds comments regarding my enthusiasm and keenness. What a nice man he is ) and a big thank you to all who took part. Raymond is making good progress with the revision notes and we look forward to seeing them on the web soon.
I shall be very keen and enthusiastic again next Wednesday for another Introductory day, this time for Chartered Banker students. another opportunity to meet some new faces. Talking of new faces maybe I should get one for myself. I can hear many of you nodding in agreement after looking at the photograph opposite!!
A good long weekend to you all on this Bank Holiday Weekend. Of course our quiz mentioned on the blog of 17th May is still open. I am advised by a friend (I wonder who that could be Michael) that there two episodes of Coronation Street on Monday so you should watch both to give yourself a chance of winning the prize.
Just a reminder that Professors, their families and Eastenders fans are not eligible to enter this competition.

An Introduction to the Introductory Day
Hi again,
Today in the 'hallowed halls' of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland, we have a group of new students who are studying for subjects based on the Diploma in Financial Services qualification.
Nine keen and enthusiastic people are due to join my colleague, Michael (who's also keen and enthusiastic, by the way!) for their Introductory Day.
Today's group come from RBS, HBOS, Intelligent Finance and Clydesdale Bank and, hopefully, they will enjoy this relaxed session before they start their studies for real!
These days are really informal and give delegates a broad overview of the CIOBS, how their qualification is structured, a recap of some learning tips / techniques (perhaps forgotten!), the support available to them, etc. etc. As important (well maybe not quite!), there is the chance to network with other like-minded students.
Elsewhere at the Academy, work is continuing at a feverish level to complete the next set of Revision Notes for the Diploma in Financial Services qualification - this time it's Sales & Service. These should be completed by the end of this week (if I stop writing blog entries) and so they should be available to download (free!!!!) from the Downloads section by next week.
OK, that's it for today - but wait! An email has just come in from the Business Development team asking for Michael or I to give a 'wee talk' at a Glasgow school on the subject of careers in financial services. Delighted to assist - well, Michael will be, as I'm on holiday on the date the talk is scheduled for!
Anyway, enjoy the rest of the day - speak to you soon!

Monday Monday
Well a lovely morning here in Edinburgh. It is a local holiday in the east today. Schools local government etc. Bankers will at their desks however. Never Mind it's the real bank holiday next Monday and our competition is in place!
Our website was revamped recently and there is much information there such as assignments for Chartered Banker and the ever so popular mock examinations for Diploma, Certificate and Regulatory examinations.
Our forums continue to be popular so why not have a look in this area and see what is going on .

Fellows' Dinner and Apex 2 Revision Days
Well, that's last night's dinner over and a very pleasant evening it turned out to be. The talk by Gregor Stewart, Head of Advisory Services, Financial Services Scotland, Ernst & Young, entitled “The Changing Regulatory Landscape in the Retail Banking Industry - pain or gain?” was very well received and many questions were asked in the Q & A session that followed.
Despite warnings from Professor Munn, many fellows did venture into the museum after dinner and most, if not all emerged unscathed!!!
Looking ahead to next Monday and Tuesday there are still a few places available on the Apex 2 revision course taking place here at Drumsheugh Gardens, Edinburgh. Anyone who is interested please contact Gillian Muir at the institute on 0131 473 7796

Fellows' Events
Today we have an event especially for our Fellows!
Hosted at the Royal College of Surgeons, there will be a dinner and a talk by Gregor Stewart, Head of Advisory Services, Financial Services Scotland, Ernst & Young, entitled “The Changing Regulatory Landscape in the Retail Banking Industry - pain or gain?”
Sounds interesting, but then so does the opportunity to visit the pathology museum afterwards - gory or what! Can't wait - for the speech of course!
It's going to be a long day, but hey, when you're enjoying yourself, who cares!
